Vodacom beach cleaners have been hard at work on Port Elizabeth beaches ensuring they are spick and span following December’s festivities.
The campaign, which commenced on December 15, 2009 concludes today, January 07, 2010. 120 cleaners and 12 supervisors were stationed at twelve of the country’s most popular coastal tourist destinations each day of the peak festive season to maintain the beaches, excluding Christmas day. The Vodacom teams work in partnership with the local municipal cleansing teams, who continued to maintain the country’s beaches on Christmas day. The beaches were: Scottburgh, Ballito, Westbrook, Umdloti (KZN); Orient Beach, Wells Estate, Jeffrey’s Bay, Port St John’s (Eastern Cape); and Muizenberg, Mnandi, Hout Bay and Camps Bay (Western Cape).
Greg Moses of Go Big Events noted that Nelson Mandela Bay’s December festivities were highly successful without any major incidents. He commended the police and municipality on a job well done over the festive season. “Our Lost Kids Campaign to help prevent children being lost on the beaches during December was also very successful,” said Moses.
“The campaign by Vodacom to help clean up the beaches will help maintain Nelson Mandela Bay’s reputation for pristine beaches,” says Moses.
Palesa Chabula, Executive Head of Vodacom’s Corporate Communications, noted that the company “is very proud to be able to enforce positive change for our environment. We are well aware that over and above cleaning beaches, we need to create awareness about the litter problem we are facing, and that is why we have been educating the cleaners so that they may also be catalysts for change.”
