I remember seeing the trailer for this movie and it grabbed my attention, but somehow I never got to see it on the big screen.

After watching it last night and really enjoying it, I searched for it on IMDB

The Curious case of Benjamin Button is a story about Benjamin Button who is born very old and ages in reverse. He gets younger as the years go by – and this leads to some very thought provoking and interesting scenarios. IMDB also mentions a few interesting facts that the humming bird seen in the movie is the only bird that can fly backwards and all hurricanes spin counter clockwise…keeping to the theme of “reverse”.

It may have been a little long as movies go, but Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett are truly magnificent in their respective roles as Benjamin and Daisy.

You can’t help but notice that there are many hidden messages in this movie about life and destiny, fate and what your perceptions and experiences are. You are able to change your circumstances, you can start again at any age and you never have to resign to the hand you are dealt. Even in “reverse” opportunities arise all the time and there is an interesting comparison of infants and the elderly. When you are very young, you require care – and when you are old and frail, you find yourself in the same position.

If you enjoy a different type of movie, something that took a lot of time and effort to produce into a film, this one is for you.

PEVibe Score 8/10

If you can handle a little gore, find movies that are a tad unusual, appealing and enjoy a good laugh (although I have a demented sense of humour)- this one is for you. It isn’t going to win any Oscars and you wont have a pajama party with a bunch of friends – watching a rerun, but I found it to be entertaining and a little mindless as most Zombies are.

The plot, has been used more than your favourite pair of jeans, Zombies have overrun the USA and a few stragglers hook up on a voyage to find a refuge. But when the movie leads are played by great actors like Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisenberg – it was immediately engrossing and I enjoyed watching the story unfold. It is more a comedy with a little gore, than a hardcore horror.

PEVibe Rating 7.5/10

Yesterday we watched “Did you hear about the Morgans” in the nice cold rainy weather. It wasn’t great but alright to watch if nothing else is available. Hugh Grant is his old self in this one and Sarah Jessica really plays the part of Hugh’s wife well.

A romantic comedy where a separated couple witness a murder and must be placed in protective custody until they can find the suspect. Paul Morgan (Grant) fights desperately to regain his wife’s trust during their time in isolation after he had an affair with another woman. They are totally removed from the world… no internet and no cellphones. Can you imagine that?

I have read some other reviews on this and looks like about 80 to 90% of them really hated this movie. I reckon it wasn’t too bad so…

PEVibe Score: 7/10

This movies plot reminded me a little of Taken, where a man loses his wife and daughter to a crime and decides to take matters into his own hands. He targets the Judicial system that failed him, when one of the two men found guilty, gets a light sentence after turning states witness. All of this while he is under arrest and being held in prison.

I enjoyed the story in that you are never quite sure what is going on and it has a couple of twists that definitely keeps you entertained. How is he able to reach out from his prison cell? Does he have an accomplice on the outside helping him?

The main character Clyde Shelton does however, step over the line while perpetrating his vengeance, but we are led to believe that the pain and suffering he has endured is so severe, it drives him to these violent acts.

Very clever, laced with metaphors and entertaining all the way through.

Be warned however that some scenes are quite violent and not suitable for sensitive viewers.

The idea of being able to have a robot version of yourself go into the world and experience anything you want without any fears or worries and not being able to die is very alluring. In this movie all of that becomes a reality in the world of the future. You control the robot version of yourself with your mind from the comfort and safety of your home.

Like with most things in the world there will always be people that are against something and will form protest groups around the world. Here we see the same thing happen where there are groups of people that oppose the idea of surrogates.

Tom Greer, (Bruce Willis), starts investigating the first murder in years where both surrogate and their operator were killed using an OD (Overload Device). He feels the need to connect with his wife Maggie, (Rosamund Pike), in real life and not through her surrogate. Their lives changed when their son was killed in a car accident and now Maggie feels she can only interact via her surrogate and not the person she really is.

More than that I won’t give away. If you are into sci-fi and futuristic movies then this is for you.

PEVibe Score: 7/10

Ryder (Travolta), hijacks a subway train and holds the passengers hostage on the train and demands $10 million to be delivered in 1 hour and he will start killing 1 passenger for every minute they are late. Garber (Washington), the subway dispatcher has to act as the hostage negotiator/confidant that Ryder talks too and won’t talk to anyone else.

Not worth the effort to watch this one at all. If you don’t see anything else on the shelf then fair enough.

Not sure what everybody was raving about this movie for because it failed to impress me. It is almost as if they brought back apartheid in this film and the victims were the aliens. They are housed in shacks in Johannesburg and then must be relocated 200 kilometers away. If I had watched this in the Cinema I probably would have walked out. There is a lot of skop, skiet and donner here and people getting blown to bits, but still it ceased to amuse me.

The aliens are referred to as “Prawns” which also I feel was very tacky and should just have been dubbed straight forward “Aliens” instead.

“Wikus Van der Merwe” (Sharlto Copley), plays the leading role in the film where he works for the government and gets assigned the task of relocating the aliens. He then discovers a strange container in one of the shacks and is infected with an Alien liquid of some sort. Shortly after his arm mutates into an Alien one. The MNU takes him in and uses him to fire off the Alien weapons as the humans cannot use them, then manages to escape.

He finds the “Prawn” that may be able to help him change back to human. The “Prawn” promises that he will be able to help him in 3 years only… what the hell?

So if you must see it then fair enough, but not recommended. Some might even say that they were bored with it and you will probably sit there forwarding through bits of the movie just to get it over with.

PEVibe Score: 3/10

They start meeting Biblical figures such as Cain and Abel and Abraham, but the mockery of these figures appalled me. It was just not funny at all. If you were by any chance wanting to get this out, don’t bother. A huge step backwards for Jack Black I would say.
