We were invited to attend the launch of 2Ché’s first album – “Play it like it is” at Uptown Theatres last night.

The pairing of Claire Harmse on vocals/guitar and Andrew Warneke on Bass, presented a mixture of their own songs and covers of some well known tracks.

Something that really appealed to me is that 2Ché’s renditions of the cover tracks were not attempts to sing them as close as possible to the originals, as so many try and do, but rather present them in their own unique style.

The result is truly amazing!

Personally, I found Claire’s voice having similar undertones to Jewel and a hint of Katie Melua. And Andrew’s versatility on the bass guitar is something to behold…

I believe the true test of any musician/band is to play live, in an intimate gathering where the margin of error is very slim – and 2Ché definitely nailed this one!

Do yourself a favour and go and see one of the up-and-coming talents that Port Elizabeth has to offer.

The Strawdogs Motorcycle Club hosted their 2nd annual Bikini Bike Wash this past weekend. The event was held to raise money for the Ithemba Special Care Centre.

After a day of washing bikes, receiving pledges and donations as well as a lucky draw, an amount of R10 000 was raised for the school.

More than 30 Motor Cycle Clubs from around South Africa attended the gathering and helped support a very worthy cause.

We would like to congratulate Strawdogs on their tremendous effort and have no doubt that the money raised will be most welcome to the Centre and be put to good use.

Lianie May with Elandre from Port Elizabeth Vibe

The Boardwalk ended their 10th Birthday Celebrations yesterday with its Meer Fees with Lianie May, Gerhard Steyn and Sing to Win winner Anja Swart.

A great turn out at the Boardwalk where the vibe was awesome around the lake with young and old clapping hands and singing along to all the songs. Anja Swart with her amazing voice had people singing and jumping around to her version of Waka Waka. Lianie and Gerhard delivered superb performances as always, let’s hope that they will soon return to Port Elizabeth again.

Other than a few glitches with the sound system, which was sorted in no time, we had a great time!

The Wholesome Market celebrated its first birthday this past weekend and man what a b-e-a-u-tiful day it was. We were so hot that we decided that the only cure was going to be an ice cold draft. Nice crowd, great entertainment, excellent foods and much much more. It was an awesome day out. Check out the Gallery for some photos.

Coffee and company at the annual Absa Kirkwood Wildlife Festival

A record crowd of 22 000 flocked to the Absa Kirkwood Wildlife Festival on Saturday, with perfect weather drawing streams of visitors from Nelson Mandela Bay throughout the day.

This brought the total for the weekend to a record 38 000 – up from last year’s 35 000, according to festival director Jennifer Honsbein. The annual Kirkwood Wildlife auction was the best in three years, will a turnover of R11,8-million, according to organiser Johan Swart.

A buffalo cow and her heifer calf from the Addo Elephant National Park went for the highest price – R500 000.

“This is a tribute to the quality of the animals that were put on auction by the Addo Elephant National Park, as well as National Parks and other top breeders.

“We achieved these prices despite a string of other auctions in the province before ours. The Kirkwood Wildlife Game Auction is recognised as having some of the best quality game in the country, and attracts buyers from neighbouring states as well, he says.”

A game management conference was held for the first time on the Friday that the festival started.
