I woke up one morning last week, turned on the telly to SABC2 Morning Live and happened to catch Vuyo interviewing two of the actors that play BA Baracus and Mad Murdock in the new A-Team movie. When I saw the antics that “Murdock” (Sharlto Copley – District 9) was getting up to during the interview I was immediately interested in seeing the movie myself.

As luck would have it my cousin invited me to a preview showing of The A-Team at Nu Metro on Sunday past and this included a free popcorn and soda, who was I to pass up the opportunity?

I remember from the A-Team series in the 80′s, there is a line “a crack commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn’t commit…”, this movie unfolds, showing how they got together in the beginning and were eventually framed.

The movie is thoroughly entertaining with a lot of laughs, action packed with some great stunts and definitely worth a visit to the theaters. Each of the characters are as strong as the series and I guess my only criticism is that BA’s mohawk could have been a bit more pronounced. Sucka fool!

So last night, short notice we decide to go and see Ironman 2. It’s one of those movies that you have to see on the big screen, i.e Matrix, Lord of the Rings, Avatar.

The story follows on from Ironman, naturally – 6 months after using his suit to establish world peace, Tony Stark discovers that the palladium used in the arc reactor keeping his heart beating is slowly poisoning his body. Added to this is a new threat by the name of Ivan Vanko who wants to avenge his disgraced father Anton Vanko, who worked on the original arc reactor with Tony’s father.

What follows is an action packed, very humerous movie that kept me entertained from start to finish. Plenty of eye candy, fast cars, awesome special effects and very little in the line of adult material, makes this a movie that the whole family can enjoy.

If you enjoyed the first movie, this is a definite must.

Alice in Wonderland. What can I say… I wouldn’t say it was a bad movie, but also not all that great. It’s not one of those movies that when it ends up on M-Net you’ll watch again. Not really the Alice I expected it to be where she has to slay a dragon type creature… Again another Disney film that is not really “fun” to watch. I would think twice if you were planning on taking the kids to watch this as there are some nightmarish scenes in this one. The 10M Age restriction should rather have been 13PG.

One thing I did enjoy about a movie like this one is you can just see how powerful the imagination can be. So many different creatures being born out of mind. Also the idea of going off to a magical imaginary place to get away from real life sounds like a good one in this crazy, busy, stressful world we live in today.

Johnny Depp’s performance in this is brilliant as expected, but for the rest of the cast… not so sure. Mia Wasikowska does not make for a good Alice and Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen fail to impress.

So if you are a fan of weird and wonderful then check this out, but if you are wanting to see the original Alice in Wonderland story then give it a miss.

A new South Africa is born in 1994 after Nelson Mandela was inaugurated as the new President of the country. A really great movie to watch and both Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon deliver outstanding performances as Madiba and Francios Pienaar. To be honest I had a tear in my eye every now and then during it.

It was very interesting to see what actually happened on the first day Nelson walked into the office, most people had packed up already thinking they will be asked to leave. Madiba let them know that they still play an important role whether black or white. Amazing that after spending 27 years in jail that he can come out and see the country as one entity and forgive and forget the past.

The Springbuck emblem also caused some friction, the majority wanted it to be changed to the Protea as to them the Springbuck still represented apartheid. Madiba did not agree with the change and managed to convince the people to keep it.

It was so great to see how he got into the Rugby so much, wanting to know the scores at all times during the World Cup in 1995, wanting to know who we would play next. It was awesome. A chill went down my spine when that Airplane went low down over the stadium before the Final Match started. An extraordinary moment in history.

I would really recommend seeing this movie. No doubt you will enjoy it.

Sci-Fi meets Fantasy in this visual feast which will amaze even the most seasoned of movie goers. The amount of colour and detail that went into the digital world of Pandora is truly astounding!

The story is about a paraplegic marine (Jake) who is able to take control of an Avatar through nervous system interaction. In his “new” body he is able to walk and run around freely. His mission however is to infiltrate a local native tribe (The Na’vi) on Pandora and negotiate mining rights to a valuable mineral on the planet.

He falls in love with the the tribe, their way of life and inevitably the main female character (Neytiri). The mining company’s greed and the Na’vi’s refusal to surrender their homeland spark a war and Jake gets caught up trying to salvage the situation.

As previously mentioned, this movie is simply beautiful. There is very little violence or themes of an adult nature and I noticed many younger children in the audience. Maybe a little long for the younger crowd, but I would highly recommend it as a must see.
