The Weekend we decided to go to the Spur again after about four months and again I was as impressed as I always am. Of all the Spur Steak Ranches the best one for me is the one at the Fig Tree. I have never had any complaints there unlike some of the others.

They had a special on the 400g Ribs for R54.95 which my mother-in-law had and according to her they were excellent. I had the BBQ Chicken Breasts as I do most times when I go to Spur and they also melted in my mouth as per usual. My wife had a 200g cheddamelt rump steak and she was quite impressed.

I also never have any issues with the waiters/waitresses at the Fig Tree Spur. Always friendly, always ready to help wherever they can. The only thing that we do see from time to time is that there aren’t enough waiters around and some end up having to wait on six tables at a time. Other than that I rate it a huge thumbs up!

I reckon Michael’s Chinese Take-aways on Circular Drive, Port Elizabeth makes the best Chinese Food. I have tried a few other places and nobody ever comes close. It is guaranteed that your taste buds will be blown away by the juiciness of his food. The favourite that I think most people enjoy is the Shanghai Steak. It comes in a mouth watering sauce that is to die for. Second in line would be the Sweet and Sour Chicken or Pork. Always crispy on the outside and meat soft on the inside.

Everything else on his menu is also outstanding and reasonably priced. Excellent service, quality of food and short waiting times makes him the best in the bay for me.

So why not give them a try and let us know what you think!

I had a meal at John Dory’s on Thursday 17th.

For those of you that don’t know what a John Dory is, it is a fish. A strange one at that.

I remember being very young – visiting my uncle in PE and he had mounted a John Dory in his garage which he caught deep sea. It was a really odd looking fish and it kept me intrigued each time I walked into the garage and happened to look at it.

Just as intriguing, is the choice of menu items at JD’s. I spent quite some time going through the menu, deciding on some Sushi as a starter and a prawn/calamari mains. The Sushi was fresh and well presented and the main course was equally as good.

This restaurant remains consistent and the service and food is of a high standard. Even when packed to capacity everything runs like clockwork.

JD’s gets a thumbs up from the Vibe and it is recommended to anyone who hasn’t been there before.

After a gruelling 30 balls at the driving range on Saturday (nearly killed me) a few of us decided to visit Vovo Telo in Newton Park. I needed a pick-me-up, real fast.

I had been there previously, and was impressed enough to try it once more. The atmosphere is laid back an unpretentious, friendly staff and a selection of “unsual” coffee shop items are on the menu. There is the usual fair of cappuccino’s, espresso’s and muffins etc which are really good as coffee shops go but what impressed me most about this establishment was the food. I enjoy the unusual, off the beaten track…

Foccacia, ciabatta and rye breads accompanied by garnishings such as rocquet, avocado and various other fresh ingredients makes the meals a real adventure.

My favourite has to be the beef and mustard butter on a ciabatta roll. Accompanied by a steamy cappucino – I felt like a new man in two ticks.

This may well become a Saturday morning ritual for me (hold the golf) – what a great way to get the weekend started!

Vovo Telo is located between 3rd and 4th Avenue Newton Park, just opposite Pecorino Restaurant.

Being a bit of a seafood junky, I am constantly searching for good restaurants in the PE area that offer really great value for money.

The Mediterranean is one of my suppliers.

Every visit to The Mediterranean is a pleasure, especially with regards to the service and hospitality that the restaurant has to offer. Throw in some really awesome food and a view of the Bay that is of the best in PE and you have a recipe for a great outing time after time.

My last visit to The Mediterranean was on Saturday October 31st and like clockwork, the experience was consistent with all my prior visits. A hands on Manager, a very pleasant and attentive Waitron and again, great food.

If you have not been to the Mediterranean, do yourself a favour.

They are located at Dolphins Leap, Marine Drive in Humewood – Next door to the Oceanarium.
