2Ché, one of Port Elizabeth’s top up-and-coming folk bands have recently finished recording their first album, ‘Play it like it is’ at Fountain Eye Studios. They will be launching the album on Monday, November 29 at Uptown Theatres.

The duo is one of the most unique combinations of musicians in South Africa, with their main focus on electric bass and voice complemented by rhythm guitar.

2Ché is something that has to be seen to be believed, as one of the Eastern Cape’s top bassists, Andrew Warneke, changes musical focus from the traditional bass line to a chord-and- melody texture. Warneke is complemented by the soulful, versatile vocals of singer and songwriter, Claire Harmse. Warneke was the only Eastern Cape musician to be invited to perform a solo set at Bass Day South Africa held in Johannesburg in 2009.

Harmse has also made a name for herself on the local music scene and was the winner of the solo category in the Vodacom Live Music Awards held in East London in 2008. Her wide vocal range and unique tone of voice is reminiscent of Janis Joplin mixed with Carol King and her ‘real life’ lyrics speak to the hearts of all listeners.

2Ché describe their sound as “organic pop/folk with jazz and blues influences.” They will be launching their much-anticipated album at Uptown Theatres on Monday, November 29. The show starts at 19h00 and tickets can be purchased from Uptown, for bookings call 041 582 1428. Tickets cost R175 for a DOUBLE ticket and includes a copy of the album, “Play it like it is.” Single tickets can be purchased for R135 and also include a copy of the album.

Written and directed: Hennie Van Greunen
Musical director: Pedro Kruger

Eers was daar Plenty O’Toole, Honey Ryder, Pussy Galore en nou Dolla, Dowwe Dolla – 007.

Want Dr No het uitgevind you don’t live(r) twice, Shabir gaan duidelik Die Another Day, Mike Bolhuis het sy License to Kill by die Spar gekoop en, as Amor haar kaarte reg speel, gaan sy Moerryker wees.
